Dr. Head grew up in West Georgia and attended Oxford College of Emory University for his last years of high school and first years of college. He earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in biology and minor in music history from Emory University and attended medical school at The Medical College of Georgia. After graduation from medical school, Dr. Head completed an internship in Mixed Medicine/Pediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. While at Columbia, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Cardiology. Dr. Head then completed an additional Cardiology fellowship at San Francisco Veterans Administration Hospital at University of California Medical Services. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Cardiac Pacing. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and American College of Physicians. After his Cardiology fellowship Dr. Head served as director of Cardiac Cath Lab Services at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine from 1976 until 1989 and rose to rank of Professor of Medicine before leaving in 1989. He has been in cardiology practice in Gadsden, Alabama since that time. Dr. Head enjoys gardening, the ballet, opera and vacationing at his home on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. He is a very active member of the Episcopal Church.
