Dr. Ferrol Sams III, graduated magna cum laude from William Marsh Rice University in Houston, Texas. He earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. His internship and residency were completed at Willford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and he was chief of internal medicine at Bergstrom AFB Hospital in Austin, Texas. Dr. Sams is board certified in internal medicine. Prior to joining the Piedmont Physicians Group, Dr. Sams was in practice with the Fayette Medical Clinic since 1987 and the Sams Clinic in Fayetteville since 1980. In addition, Dr. Sams was very active with the startup of Fayette County's EMS. Dr. Sams believes in partnering with his patients and works with them to develop individualized treatment plans that take into account their specific needs. He believes trust and honesty are key elements in the patient-physician relationship and works closely with patients to keep them well. While Dr. Sams enjoys many aspects of medicine, he is especially interested in prevention of diabetes and cardiac disease.
