Dr. Hyjek earned her MD and PhD from the Medical University of Lodz in Poland. She completed an Anatomic/Clinical Pathology residency and a Hematopathology fellowship at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She was most recently an Associate Professor of Pathology and a Hematopathology attending at the University of Chicago. Dr. Hyjek has a clinical interest in myeloid neoplasms, acute leukemias and lymphoproliferative disorders, with particular interest in myeloproliferative and myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms. She is also interested in flow cytometry for diagnosis of acute leukemias and monitoring of minimal residual disease, and immunohistochemistry for diagnosis of hematopoietic neoplasms, lymphomas and solid tumors. Dr. Hyjek has a research interest in pathobiology of myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms and investigating the relationship between cancer cells (hematopoietic neoplasms and solid tumors) and microenvironment using various approaches, including morphology, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and molecular techniques. She has an additional research interest in the development/validation of flow cytometry protocols for immunophenotyping and monitoring of minimal residual disease in acute leukemias and immunohistochemistry for identification/development of new biomarkers.
