Dr. Wayne is a physiatrist, a Medical Doctor trained in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He works hand-in-hand with orthopaedic surgeons to diagnose, treat, and direct the rehabilitation of disorders and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Dr. Wayne is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Wayne’s practice is focused on Electrodiagnostics; studying the electrical properties of nerves and muscles. Patients are commonly referred to Dr. Wayne for symptoms of numbness, tingling, weakness and pain, to be evaluated using Nerve Conduction Studies and Electromyography. The most common clinical entities include: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Neuropathies, and Radiculopathies ( Pinched nerves in the neck and/or back).
Dr. Wayne has also served as medical advisor to many local and national insurance carriers. He was the Director of the Residency Program for the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Virginia Commonweath University, Medical College of Virginia. A highly regarded speaker and teacher, Dr. Wayne served 10 years as state president and on many committees for the Virginia Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and has remained active on many committees for the national Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
In addition to his clinical interest in electrodiagnostics, Dr. Wayne is actively involved in the treatment and management of nerve injuries and diseases. He has a special interest in the treatment and management of Peripheral Neuropathies. Using all of his experience as a rehabilitation physician, he is concerned about how these medical problems effect his patients personal lives including their functional activities, occupation, sports and hobbies. Dr. Wayne may perform injections or prescribe medications to treat these conditions but may also use alternative medical techniques such as acupuncture, vitamins, topical creams/gels, electrical stimulation and other innovative techniques as they develop.
