For 15 years in Clinical Academic Medicine, he was Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and Associate Professor and Professor of Medicine (tenured) at Saint Louis University. At both these institutions, he also served as Director of Training in Endoscopy. Dr. Saeed has extensive experience in all aspects of endoscopy including colonoscopy, upper Endoscopy, pancreaticobiliary endoscopy (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) guided biopsy and therapeutic interventions, laparoscopy, small bowel enteroscopy, stents, lasers, management of hemorrhage, non-surgical treatment of hemorrhoids, endoscopic research, and new technology development. He has served on the Technology Assessment Committee of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Saeed is an acknowledged international expert in Endoscopy and has performed endoscopic procedures that have been transmitted live via satellite during prestigious meetings and courses held in various countries. He developed an endoscopic multiple band ligation device, the "Saeed six-shooter", which simplified the management of bleeding varices and hemorrhoids. The six-shooter was featured in an Emmy Award winning episode of the Hollywood show "ER." Other patented devices on the market include "The Shortshot," a device for the office ligation of hemorrhoids, "Bouncer," a multipurpose balloon used in ERCP procedures, and "Duette," a device for the non-surgical endoscopic excision of pre-cancerous (or with early cancer) Barrett’s esophagus and other lesions. He has over 120 publications and has been invited as a Visiting Professor to numerous reputable Universities and meetings in the United States and overseas. Dr. Saeed is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and an International Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Pakistan. Among other honors, in 1996, Pope John Paul II invited him to the Vatican. Dr. Saeed is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology.
