Brief Intro

Dennis L. Havens, MD, FACS, is a member of the Cleveland Clinic consultant staff and a thoracic surgeon at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Ky., a Cleveland Clinic Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Affiliate Program. He is Surgical Director of the hospitals Heart Institute and a clinical professor of thoracic surgery at Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Havens is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine. He served a surgical residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Ky. After completion of his surgical training, he was in private practice as a general and vascular surgeon in Ashland, Ky. for five years. He pursued specialized training as a resident in thoracic surgery at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, NM, completing his training in 1982. Returning to Kentucky, Dr. Havens established his practice as a thoracic surgeon with Surgical Associates of Lexington. He was associated with several other private practice groups in Lexington and Cincinnati, Ohio before joining the Pikeville Medical Center staff in 2004 and the Cleveland Clinic affiliate staff in 2011. Dr. Havens is board-certified in surgery and thoracic surgery and holds special certification in critical care medicine. He has been named to the "Best Doctors in America" every year since 2005. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Heart Association, Heart Rhythm Society, International College of Angiology, American College of Cardiology, American College of Chest Physicians and the Kentucky Surgical Society. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American and Kentucky Medical Associations, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association and Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
