Denise Waugh, MD FACEP FAAHPM is Medical Director for Palliative Care Services at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas. Dr. Waugh's activities span the clinical, research, academic and leadership domains. She is fellowship trained and board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and was awarded the Vi McKinney endowed fellowship by the Institute of Palliative Medicine in San Diego for 2008.
In addition to her clinical practice and palliative care administrative directorship at Scott and White, she holds a faculty appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Texas A&M Medical School in Bryan, Texas. A fellow of the Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM,) Dr. Waugh is a member of the AAHPM Clinical Education Committee. Dr. Waugh also serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for PC-FACS (Palliative Care-Fast Access to Critical Summaries) the AAHPM online digest of the current, most salient, high quality, peer-reviewed journal articles. She serves as a consultant to the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) advisory committee for IPAL-EM (Improving Palliative care in Emergency Medicine) and the American College of Emergency Physician (ACEP) palliative medicine section steering committee. She is a frequent speaker at both state and national meetings and enjoys speaking about alleviating/minimizing pain and other suffering in all serious illnesses.
