Dr. Schwartz graduated cum laude from Indiana University in 1983. He attended medical school at Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois and graduated in 1988. Dr. Schwartz completed an internship in general surgery at Loyola University in 1989 and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois in 1994. In 1995, he completed a spine fellowship at the Leatherman Spine Center, Kosair Children’s Hospital and the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.
Dr. Schwartz won the North America Spine Society’s award for Outstanding Research in 1994. He is the inventor of the Antares, Legacy Dual Rod, Leverage Cervical Laminoplasty, Archon Cervical Plate and Anterior TLIF Implant. These systems are used for the treatment of spinal fractures, scoliosis, tumors, cervical myelopathy and spinal fusion surgery.
Dr. Schwartz has authored articles published in many professional journals and has given presentations at national and international conferences. He is an assistant clinical professor at the Indiana University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Director of the OrthoIndy Spine Fellowship.
