Dr. Spott is originally from Shaker Heights, Ohio. He attended the University of Pittsburgh for undergraduate work, then attended medical school at Ohio State University. He attended the University of Pennsylvania for residency training in dermatology, serving as chief resident in the final year. Prior to entering practice, two years of military service were completed, one spent aboard a ship in southeast Asia during the Vietnam conflict. He has now been living and practicing dermatology in the Washington, D.C. area for the last 36 years.
