Brief Intro

Dr. Bellows attended the University of Wisconsin and the University of Illinois where he received his bachelors degree in physiology. He continued his studies at the Chicago Medical School where he graduated in the top ten of his class and was awarded the prize for Outstanding Performance in Surgery. In that same year he was chosen for membership in Alpha-Omega-Alpha, the Honorary Medical Society. Dr. Bellows continued his training at the University of Pennsylvania where he completed his residency in eye surgery at the Scheie Eye Institute. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. David A. Bellows, MDDr. Bellows is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the New Hampshire Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the New Hampshire Medical Society, the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society and the European Neuro-Ophthalmology Society. his work at the Eye Center, Dr. Bellows is a member of the faculty at the Tufts/New England Medical Center in Boston. He has served four terms as chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Catholic Medical Center and he currently serves as co-chairman of the laser committee at the Elliot Hospital. Dr. Bellows is a member of an international group of neuro-ophthalmologists involved in research on Ischemic Optic Neuropathy. He has also participated in research that led to the approval of intraocular lens implantation in children and the use of the excimer laser for laser vision correction. Dr. Bellows primary areas of interest are glaucoma and the neurological diseases that affect the visual system (neuro-ophthalmology).
