Clifford Simmang sees patients from all over Central and West Texas. His patients choose to travel the extra distance seeking his extensive experience and naturally gentle, caring disposition. Many have expressed similar sentiments:
"Dr. Simmang is so patient with us and takes the time to make sure we understand the course of treatment."
"Dr. Simmang has so much experience, I know I’m in good hands."
Committed to the highest standards of care for all patients, Dr. Simmang currently serves as one of 14 surgeons, and the only 1 from Texas, on the American Board of Colon & Rectal Surgery, the national board that oversees certification for all Colon and Rectal surgeons. He is also the Chairman of Advisory Council for colon and rectal surgery to the American College of Surgeons, acting as a liaison between the ACS and the American Society of colon and rectal Surgeons to create the annual program for the colon and rectal society.
Dr. Simmang has experience as the director for the colon and rectal surgery training program at UT Southwestern and Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. It is known as one of the most competitive and sought after programs in the nation due to the quality of educational teaching and surgery performed. Dr. Simmang is currently on the Residency Review Committee of the American Medical Association, critiquing and reviewing national programs like his to make sure they meet or exceed credentials for colon and rectal surgical training.
As a leader in the field of colon and rectal health, Dr. Simmang served as one of only five members on the Laparoscopic Education Committee for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. As the top recognized national experts, these five surgeons were responsible for teaching all Fellows training in colon and rectal laparoscopic surgery on a national level. He continues to lecture and teach advanced laparoscopic surgery around the country. He has almost 100 articles published in various medical journals and has served on editorial boards for four of those journals.
Even with the travel demands of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Simmang makes time for each patient in his office and carefully and personally discusses their diagnosis and treatment. He is always happy to answer questions and share a bit of his immense knowledge. He specializes in sphincter sparing procedures for rectal cancer, laparoscopic colorectal surgery and the evaluation and management of hereditary colorectal cancer conditions. His practice encompasses colorectal disorders including Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, and screening, diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopies.
In his senior year at Texas A&M, Dr. Simmang marched proud as a Fightin' Texas Aggie Band Drum Major. He enjoys water sports, boating, scuba diving and escaping to the Caribbean. Dr. Simmang and his wife, Karen, live in Coppell and have two children.
