Dr. Hiser is a general surgeon who treats disease with surgical techniques. She works closely with other physicians to detect conditions that would benefit from a surgical procedure. As a surgeon, Dr. Hiser believes there are many things patients can do to preserve their health, possibly avoid surgery and increase the success of surgery when it is needed. She sees obesity as a major problem for many patients, affecting every part of their health. Dr. Hiser warns that when surgery is the best medical solution, obesity adds unnecessary risk, and that patients who take care of themselves do much better. Dr. Hiser genuinely enjoys performing surgical procedures. She takes great pride and satisfaction in doing something with her hands that may cure a patient or at least bring some relief of symptoms. She enjoys helping patients make decisions about their care and discussing the questions they may have. She appreciates talking about options they might have researched themselves. While Dr. Hiser performs many different surgical procedures successfully, she has a special interest in breast surgery and teaching patients about breast health. She began her medical training with an undergraduate degree from Millikin University, followed by her medical degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She completed her surgical residency at Southern Illinois University at Springfield. She is proud to be part of Meridian Medical Associates, enjoying the team approach to medicine and the ability to collaborate with an excellent group of physicians to better treat all of her patients. Dr. Hiser is married to a school principal, and they are raising two boys. She spends time away from her patients with her family and the family’s two cats and two dogs. She enjoys and values time to exercise, and she is interested in music.
