Dr. Christopher Spellman, M.D. is a Board Certified Comprehensive Ophthalmologist with sub-specialty training in glaucoma. Dr. Spellman is trained in the latest techniques for cataract surgery, glaucoma management and surgery, laser vision correction, cosmetic procedures of the eyes and face, and most other medical and surgical conditions of the eye. Dr. Spellman offers the newest and most advanced premium lens implants for his patients with cataracts. The premium lens implants provide outstanding vision, and also permanently eliminate the need for glasses after cataract surgery. Dr. Spellman is on staff and performs surgery at Scripps Encinitas Medical Center and Tri-city Medical Center. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. After growing up in San Diego County, Dr. Spellman attended the University of California at both the San Diego and Santa Cruz campuses, where he graduated with Honors. He received degrees in both Biology and Psychology. He then attended the Medical College of Wisconsin. Next, Dr. Spellman completed an internship in General Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Dr. Spellman stayed in New York for his Ophthalmology training and served as Chief Resident at LIJ-NS University Medical Center. Dr. Spellman then completed fellowship training in glaucoma at the world-renowned New York Presbyterian, Cornell Medical Center. Throughout his training, Dr. Spellman has participated in numerous research protocols investigating glaucoma. Following his fellowship training, Dr. Spellman returned to San Diego County with his wife and two sons. He now lives in Carlsbad with his family.
