I am Assistant Professor of Surgery at West Virginia University Hospital, a state of the art tertiary care facility staffed with all medical and surgical subspecialties to guarantee advanced modern treatment. I specialize in all areas of arterial and venous minimally invasive as well as conventional open surgical techniques involving the arteries to the brain, arm, the main artery in the chest, and abdomen, and the arteries to the intestine and kidneys as well as the legs. I have a special interest in aortic aneurysm surgery using stentgrafts making any surgical procedure the smallest intervention possible with the best result. I also have an interest in all aspects of venous disease including varicose veins and venous reconstructions for narrowed or blocked veins. I have extensive experience in hemodialysis access surgery.
I was born in Germany and am a permanent U.S. resident. After completing my medical degree at the University of Munich in Germany, I pursued training in General Surgery at premier U.S. institutions including the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. I then completed a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio before returning to Germany for further advanced treatment in all aspects of endovascular aortic reconstructions at Nurnberg City Hospital/University of Erlangen, which is a leader in minimally invasive vascular surgery in Europe. I was invited to join the faculty at West Virginia University in 1999. I am double Board Certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and member of numerous prestigious national and international professional societies.
