Dr. Hurbis specializes in Otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat). He sees patients at the Lower Umpqua Hospital Specialty Clinic Annex and performs surgery at Lower Umpqua Hospital.
A native of Michigan, he earned his medical degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and completed his residency at the University of Illinois. He and his family moved to Oregon in 1990.
Dr. Hurbis has authored or co-authored many scientific articles in the medical press. He has also been directly involved in the design of a number of medical instruments. He has a number of research and presentation awards to his credit including the prestigious American Bronchoesophagological Association research award. He also acted as a medical consultant on the "Scrubs" television show in 2003.
In his free time, Dr. Hurbis in interested in competitive road cycling, mountain biking, sailing, orchestral trumpet, classical piano, and auto racing.
