Brief Intro

In his role as Medical Director of FriendsÂ’ Intensive Adult Unit, Dr. Basil is the leader of the interdisciplinary treatment team that provides individual and group therapy for those ages 18-55 who require inpatient care for mental illness. Prior to joining Friends Hospital, Dr. Basil served as Attending Psychiatrist at MHM Correctional Services in Philadelphia, as a Staff Psychiatrist at Fairmount Behavioral Health Services in Philadelphia, and was a staff member at the Drexel University College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. He also has worked at leading international psychiatric facilities, including Cortinas Hospital and St. JohnÂ’s Medical College in India. Dr. Basil is a member of the Indian Psychiatric Society, the American Psychiatric Association, and the World Association of Young Psychiatrists and Trainees. He has co-authored 36 presentations, articles, case reports, and commentaries on topics such as alcoholism and addiction, mania, dementia, malingering, and schizophrenia. Dr. Basil is also the co-author of Â“Psychiatry: 1,200 Questions to Help You Pass the Boards,Â” which was cited as one of the few books exclusively targeted at those preparing for Psychiatry Boards by the European Journal of Neurology. Dr. Basil received an M.D. from St. JohnÂ’s National Academy of Health and Sciences in Bangalore, India and completed his residency training at Drexel UniversityÂ’s College of Medicine in Philadelphia.
