McArdle graduated from Boston University's College of Arts and Sciences in 1980, majoring in Biology with minor concentrations in Art History, Latin Language and Literature. For the next 18 months, Dr. McArdle served as a research associate at University Hospital's Naval Blood Research Laboratory in Boston, where he worked with Dr. C. Robert Valeri, who originated frozen storage as a method for preserving human blood products. He then attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where he earned a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1985. He has been practicing general dentistry on the New Hampshire Seacoast ever since.
