Dr. Andrew Kennedy joined Cancer Centers of North Carolina in 2011. He is an internationally acclaimed radiation oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal cancers, as well as cancers of the breast, lung and cervix.
A graduate of Loma Linda School of Medicine, Dr. Kennedy completed his residency at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As chief resident, and later a research fellow, he completed significant work in three-dimensional treatment planning (3D external beam radiation therapy) and radiobiology research. He was an associate professor in Radiation Oncology and head of GI Radiation Oncology at The University of Maryland School of Medicine from 1997-2002. Prior to joining CCNC, Dr. Kennedy was co-medical director of Wake Radiology’s Cary Oncology Center.
Dr. Kennedy has given numerous presentations on radiation therapy for the treatment of colorectal and liver cancer, and was instrumental in reintroducing an important new treatment for liver cancer, called infusion of microspheres. This revolutionary treatment offers hope to patients who have not had success with chemotherapy. He has written dozens of articles, book chapters and abstracts on radiation oncology and has been invited to give presentations on radiation therapy for GI cancers and infusion of microspheres at the premier medical conferences in the United States and Europe. He is the primary instructor of other radiation oncologists of microsphere therapy in the world.
