Andrew follows headache/migraine-specific treatments or evidence-based treatment guidelines published by the American Headache Society (AHS), National Headache Foundation (NHF), and the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), and he avoids prescribing harmful and dangerous drugs (narcotics, opioids, barbiturates, and benzodiazepines). His work also identifies any other comorbidities typically associated with primary and secondary Headache Disorders, such as anxiety & depression, sleep disorders, and obesity, to help develop a treatment plan with a multidisciplinary team.
Education
Andrew LaVear completed his PA training through the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (military program) and received his bachelor's and master's degree through the University of Nebraska Medical Center. After practicing in general neurology, he obtained his Additional Qualification in Headache Medicine from the National Headache Foundation and in collaboration with Dr. O'Carroll started CowTown Headache Center.
Andrew grew up in a rural town about 30 miles southwest of St. Louis, Missouri. He joined the National Guard after high school and completed his nursing education in 2011. He served overseas after completing nursing school as a Preventive Medicine Specialist. He then entered Physician Assistant school and was commissioned as a Physician Assistant. He has served as a senior medical advisor to commanders and helps maintain Soldier readiness as he continues to serve in the National Guard as a Physician Assistant.
