Dr. Schlegel supports the DETS mission to focus on wellness, not illness.Background and EducationDr. Schlegel started at Diabetes and Endocrine Treatment Specialists in 2022 and brings twenty years of experience to this position.He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a flagship hospital of Harvard Medical School. He completed Endocrinology sub-specialty fellowship at the University of California San Francisco, and remained on the faculty for three years after graduation. Dr. Schlegel was a tenured associate professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine, and a staff physician at the Salt Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center for over a decade before joining DETS. Dr. Schlegel is a member of the American Medical Association.He is also a member of the North American Skull Base Society, recognized for his expertise in treating disorders of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland such as tumors, and syndromes of pituitary hormone excess and pituitary hormone deficiency. He is a Family Heart Foundation-recognized treatment specialist for familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and elevated Lipoprotein(a), also known as Lp(a), two common, but inadequately identified and treated hereditary disorders of cholesterol metabolism that causes early atherosclerotic heart disease.Dr. Schlegel is currently accepting new patients.
