Dr. Akbar Dawood is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with over 15 years of experience in exclusively practicing the art and science of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
He obtained his first dental degree (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) from the University of Pune in India. He then went on to study at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, an Ivy League institution, where he achieved his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. He proceeded to specialize in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in New York where he also served as the Chief Resident.
Since the completion of his training, Dr. Dawood has worked in private practice as well as in academics. He was actively involved in resident teaching at the University of Oklahoma in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as teaching oral surgery to dental students at the OU School of Dental Medicine. He has also had the privilege to serve the Veterans of our armed forces while working at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center.
After several years working in a group practice setting in Maryland and Virginia, Dr, Dawood started his own practice: Virginia Oral Surgery Specialists as a means to provide the very best, individualized, personal care to his patients.
Dr. Dawood is passionate about oral surgery and likes to practice the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with a special interest in wisdom teeth extractions, complex dental extractions, implant surgery, bone, and soft tissue grafting as well as oral pathology and iv sedation/general anesthesia.
Not only is he Board Certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery but he is also a Diplomat of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology and a member of several locals, regional, national, and international oral surgery, implant surgery, and dental organizations.
Dr. Dawood is a caring, attentive, and approachable surgeon who makes every effort to provide his patients with the personal care and treatment options that would best serve their needs. Besides English, he is fluent in Hindi, Urdu, Gujrati, and Marathi.
